Wallace Newman Obituary

Wallace Eugene Newman, formerly of New Washington, IN passed away on Jan 20, 2024, at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville, Ky. 
He was born on July 27, 1936, in Breckinridge County, Kentucky to Wallace and Alma (Roberts) Newman.  Gene, as he was called by family members, was a 1954 graduate of New Washington High School and immediately after graduating, joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for 4 years.  He was honorably discharged in 1958.

Gene loved working and being in the outdoors.  He put out a vegetable garden almost every year and liked to fish and also go hunting for ginseng and yellow root whenever he could.    He also enjoyed playing billiards and entered pool tournaments at Sweat Hogs in New Washington where he was affectionately called “Geno” by his many friends there.   He was a big University of Kentucky basketball fan.
Wallace Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Alma Newman; sister Frances Watkins (Bill), brother, David Newman. and sister Carolyn Willinger.
Survivors include his son, Eric L. Newman of Madison, Indiana, brother Gary Newman of Jeffersonville, Indiana, sister-in-law Marty Newman of Lexington, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.    

Life Celebration Services will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
