Oreta Rita Moore Obituary

Oreta “Rita” Moore, 97 of Charlestown passed away on Wednesday April 14, 2021 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN.

She was born on December 1, 1923 in Corbin, KY to Ewell and Lillie Jane Cathers Parker.  Rita worked in the bag room at I.C.I. in Charlestown and was a member of First Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Vincent Thomas, husband, Crockett Moore and son, Gary W. Moore and four siblings.

Rita enjoyed making fudge, the Moore family jam cake for her family, volunteering at the Hope Center, and loved sitting with the elderly and helping others after retiring.  She also liked Bluegrass Mountain music and church hymns along with singing and harmonizing.  She loved singing to her grandkids “Jesus Loves Me”, shopping in bargain stores and or shopping in general.  She was known to make new friends wherever she went and if she was to be known by one word it would be joyful.

She is survived by her daughters, Jewell Riano Bradley and her husband Jim of Mequan, WI, Jan Thomas of St. Augustine, FL and Connie Rhodes and her husband Steve of Propect, KY; daughter in law, Lisa Moore of Charlestown; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Due to Covid-19 concerns the Life Celebration will be private with burial in Charlestown Cemetery.
