Joyce (Sullivan) Hogg

Joyce Sullivan Hogg, 78, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN. 

Born on September 27, 1944, in Henry County, KY, to Tom Sullivan and Susie B Downey Sullivan, Joyce attended Trimble County High School in Bedford, KY, and later received her GED from Madison Consolidated High School in Madison, IN. She grew up in Trimble County, KY, and lived in Hanover, IN, prior to moving to Charlestown, IN, where she established her career and raised her family.

Joyce worked as a custodian for Greater Clark County Schools for 30 years. She also worked for the Charlestown Civic Center for 20 years where she helped maintain the facility as well as served as a mentor to the youth of the community.  Her compassionate nature also led her to serve as a caregiver for a disabled senior for many years.

Joyce was a 13-year breast cancer survivor. She was a bingo enthusiast and enjoyed a good game of Euchre and Yahtzee. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially during the holidays. Joyce cherished her children and grandchildren and would do whatever she could to help others in need.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Brody Curtis; her stepmother, Stella Sullivan; brothers, Benny Sullivan, Everett Sullivan, Lucian Sullivan, and Tommy Sullivan; and sisters-in-law, Virgie Sullivan, Alice Sullivan, and Goldine Sullivan. 

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Heather Hogg Curtis of Charlestown, IN; son Chris Wehner of Charlestown, IN; granddaughter, Makenna Curtis of Charlestown, IN; roommate/caree Tina Mathes of Charlestown, IN; brothers, Alvin Sullivan Sr, Buford “Peewee” Sullivan, Kenny Sullivan, and Timothy “Timbo” Sullivan (Cathy) all of Bedford, KY; sister, Cindy Sullivan Frazier (Terry) of Bedford, KY; many nieces and nephews, and several close friends.

Visitations will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 12 PM-4 PM at Grayson Funeral Home located at 893 High Street in Charlestown, IN, with the funeral beginning at 4 PM. Joyce’s wishes were to be cremated, so there will not be a graveside service.
