Edith Blackburn, age 97, of Charlestown, IN, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN.
Edith was born May 20, 1922, in Pikeville, KY and spent her formative years near Forest Hills, KY (then Road Fork). Mrs. Blackburn retired from the accounting department of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego, later moving with her husband, Benton, to South Bend in the early 1980s. Edith and Benton were respected community members wherever they lived, and they traveled the country avidly for many years square dancing, camping, and visiting family. Like Benton, Edith also enjoyed gardening, and time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of many many years, Benton Scott “Blackie” Blackburn, nine brothers and four sisters. She is survived by one sister Nancy Wills of Lexington, KY, her daughter Denise and son-in-law Mike Tebo, her son Sydney Scott Blackburn and daughter-in-law Joanne, four grandchildren, Tammy Steinbrecher and husband Wallace, Eric Blackburn and wife Cathie, Jason Blackburn and wife Mary Claire, Todd Tebo and partner Brittney Meredith, and 6 great grandchildren, Shaun Tebo, Ruth Ann Steinbrecher and husband Mike Sebula, Trevor Blackburn, Noelah Meredith, Isobel Grace Blackburn, and Benjamin Kenna Blackburn.
A celebration of life will be held for Mrs. Blackburn at 1 pm on April 25, 2020 at Bethany Christian Church, 9007 IN-62, Charlestown, IN 47111.
