Dorothy E. (Richmond) Smith

Dorothy E. Smith, 91 of Charlestown, IN passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Bennett House in New Albany, IN.

Dorothy was born on April 3, 1929 in Lebanon, KY the daughter of Joseph and Tilda Williams Richmond. She retired in 1994 from the Greater Clark Schools as an Instructional Assistant, where working with children was something she genuinely enjoyed. Dorothy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Charlestown, IN and an avid participant in Relay for Life. Some of her greatest loves were spending time with family especially at Christmas, summers with her grandchildren and travelling around the world. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, baking her specialty’s  angel food cake, cheesecake and cookies. Spending time with her friends in her senior group, senior games, playing euchre, bunco, going shopping and to the movies.

Dorothy is survived by her son, David L. Smith of Baytown, TX; grandchildren, Lori Gavin, Charles Schuler, Leslie Gamboa, Courtney Hudnall and Taylor Bagnall; great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Madison, Hailey, Lane, Naithyn, Camden, Adalynn, Layla, Natalie and Braelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Wesley Smith in 2012; son, Richard Earl Smith in 2020; sisters, Estelle Fentress, Evelyn Flanagan and Gertrude Mayfield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Charlestown, IN with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.
