Anna Gibbons Obituary

Anna Gean Gibbons, 72 of Hampton Oaks in Scottsburg, IN passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, IN.

Gean was born August 5, 1948 in Clark County, IN; the daughter of James Ruben Gibbons and Jane Virginia (Proctor) Gibbons.  She was #3 in a family of fourteen children 10 boys and 4 girls.

Gean was a graduate of Ball State teachers college and a former teacher in the New Albany-Floyd County School System.  She had a heart and love for teaching.

In her personal life, Gean enjoyed reading, writing stories, hiking with family, playing cards, scrabble, playing tennis and visiting with her school friends, hunting for and purchasing antiques along with traveling; she had visited many countries.

Also, Gean was a great storyteller (she could make up stories on the spot) and although she had no children of her own, she had many younger siblings and nieces and nephews who were the recipients of her wisdom and knowledge.  She loved to laugh and reminisce about the times when she was growing up.  She was a wonderful sister, aunt and friend to all that knew her, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  She was very much loved and respected.

Every holiday she would have all the family over to her house for dinner or cook outs.  In the summer, after eating, the volleyball court was always beckoning.  She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews teaching them how to play tennis or taking them down along the creeks and teach them about the names of the early spring wildflowers.

She had a dream to have a log cabin.  That dream was fulfilled and she called her log cabin “The Outback”.  She loved John Denver’s song “Take Me Home Country Roads”.  She had two horses that she loved “Filly Joe” and “Jud”.  Along with her horses Gean loved her dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and guineas.

Gean was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Philip Wayne Gibbons, Mark Anthony Gibbons, Stanley Ruben Gibbons, John Lesley Gibbons and Larry Leroy Gibbons.

Gean is survived by her sisters, Susie Jane Fetz of Marysville, IN, Janie Kay Gibbons of Jeffersonville, IN and Beverly Ann Barajas of Carrollton, KY; brothers, James Robin Gibbons and his wife Beverly of Merritt Island, FL, Stephen Allen Gibbons of Autryville, NC, Raymond Douglas Gibbons of Otisco, IN, William Joseph Gibbons and his wife Heather of Mt. Sterling, KY and Ronald David Gibbons of New Albany, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews.
