Anita Fay (Shanks) Smothers

Anita Fay Smothers 73 of Henryville, IN passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Veterans Hospital in Louisville, KY.

She was born on September 1, 1950, in Louisville, KY to DuWaine M. and Geneva F Bevill Shanks.  Anita was an army veteran and attended First Baptist Church in Henryville.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Sylvia Masingo, Gale Tillery, Michael Shanks and Jimmy Daugherty.

Survivors include her husband, William Smothers; sons, James Allen York II (Tran) of Mare, CA, Johnny Allen York, Sr., of Jeffersonville, IN; daughter, Diann Lynn Heavrin of Jeffersonville, brothers, Patrick Shanks of Charlestown, IN, Tony Shanks of Charlestown, Major Shanks of Pekin, IN, Donald Shanks of Evansville, IN, Scott Shanks of Charlestown, David Shanks of Louisville, KY, Michael Daugherty of Kansas City, KS, DuWaine Shanks of Jeffersonville; sisters, Donna Shanks of Charlestown, Joan Huff of Willow Shade, KY, Beth Cundiff of Brandenburg, KY; grandchildren, Kayla, Bailey, Anthony, Johnny, Coy, Christina; great grandchildren, Paris and Lilly.

Life Celebration Services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Charlestown Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday and after 10:00 am on Friday.
