William “Bill’ Joseph Resch (75) of Charlestown, IN, went home to his heavenly father on December 18, 2019 at his home; surrounded by his loved ones after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
William was born on October 25, 1944 in Jeffersonville, IN to Edward Chester Resch and LaNorna Voignier Resch. He loved woodworking, showing classic cars, camping and traveling, attending men’s Bible study, and watching IU basketball. Bill worked in the plumbing, heating, and air conditioning industry for over 40 years. He worked for Rouch Plumbing, owned Resch’s Home Maintenance in Charlestown, and retired from Jewish Hospital. Bill was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was President of the Fire Department Board, President of Charlestown Advisory Planning Commission, Founder and President of the Charlestown Senior Citizens, Inc., member of Charlestown Lions Club, and served on the advisory board of LifeSpan Resources. Bill was recognized by the American Red Cross and Retired Senior Volunteers Program for his volunteerism. He was a wonderful husband, loving father, proud grandfather, active community member, and a good friend.
William was preceded in death by his parents; son, David and sister, Theresa.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca (Hanover) Resch; daughter, Aimee Elizabeth Bowling (Mike); and granddaughter, Brooke Nicole Bowling; all of Charlestown, IN; brother, John Arthur Resch (Earlene) of Muncie, IN; sister, Dorothy Cook (Jewell) of Jeffersonville, IN; brother-in-law, Joe Hanover (Doreen) of Temecula, CA; sister-in-law, Mary Damon (Loren) of Corydon, IN and many nieces, nephews and extended church family.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Celebration of Life services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will also be on Monday at the church after 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in New Albany, IN.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, Bill’s wishes are that people would do an act of kindness for someone else to continue his legacy of generous giving. Please consider doing a helpful act during this Christmas season or in the future in order to honor Bill’s memory.
