Dana Jay Schowe

Dana Jay Schowe, the beloved husband of Elizabeth Alexander Schowe, and the proud father of Jennifer and Mara Schowe, passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Dana and his wife resided in Chadds Ford, PA, but spent a significant amount of time at the Schowe Heritage Farm in Indiana, and at the Alexander Camp in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Dana was a graduate of Purdue University, in West Lafayette, IN, where he received a BS Degree in Forestry in 1978, and, met his future bride. He grew up in Cincinnati, OH, where he attended both Colerain and Northwest High Schools. He was an athlete and a scholar: he was a member of the National Honor Society, as well as, a member of the Cross Country, Basketball and Track Teams. During his Junior and Senior years at Northwest High School, he was Captain of the Cross-Country Team and Co-Captain of the Track Team.

Upon graduation from Purdue University, he accepted employment with the Indiana Department of Forestry at Deam Lake State Recreation Area and later with West Lake Country Club in Augusta Georgia. He joined the DuPont company as a production operator at Fayetteville Works, NC, Tralee Park, DE, and at Sabine River Works, TX. He then became a stay at home Dad, where his contributions allowed his wife flexibility in assignments at DuPont, while he encouraged his daughters, Jennifer and Mara, to excel in life. Jennifer completed her BS Degree in Marketing/Business at Middle Tennessee State University and is a manager in Tennessee. Mara is a finance major at Virginia Tech and a manager in Virginia.

Dana was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 640, in Pleasant Run, Ohio. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and achieved the rank of Life Scout. Subsequent to his time as a Scout, he became an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troup 640. In his spare time, he loved to fish and taught his daughters the same skills. Dana was preceded in passing by his parents, Jay and Mary Schowe of New Washington, IN; grandparents, Reid and Bertha Schowe of New Washington, IN; grandmother, Ella Mae Harbin of Charlestown, IN; sister-in-law, Lydia VanSluyters of Grand Rapids, MI; and brother-in-law, Peter Alexander, Jr. of Three Lakes, MI.

Dana is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Alexander Schowe; daughters, Jennifer and Mara Schowe; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Maxine Alexander of Hockessin, DE; brother-in-law and nephew’s family, Craig, Ryan, Shannon, and Sydney VanSluyters of Grand Rapids, MI; sister-in-law and family, Meg, Tom and Katie Hall of Elkton, MD; sister-in-law and family, Nancy, Randy, Randy, and Maddie Nance of Nags Head, NC; Brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Janice Schowe of Chandler, AZ; Nephew and family, David, Lorinda, Jay and Ava Schowe of Chandler, AZ; nephew and Daniel's wife, Daniel and Christine Schowe of Granbury, TX; cousin, Terry Schneiter of Ohio City, OH

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday September 16, 2017 at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington with visitation starting at 11:30 am.  Burial of ashes will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
